  1. Buying a new table saw should be a straightforward experience, but my recent purchase of the 1.75 hp Magnum saw has highlighted some issues worth mentioning for anyone considering the brand. In my case, one of the cast-iron wings that came with the saw was clearly defective — it hadn’t been properly machined, was uneven, and was very rough compared to the others. Rather than arranging for a new part from the manufacturer, the retailer chose to remove a wing from their floor model and offer that as a replacement. Unfortunately, the floor-model part was already scratched and dinged, and didn’t match the condition you expect from a brand-new machine.

    This has left me, a month and a half after buying the saw, still trying to resolve the issue through the retailer. It also raises a concern about how future warranty claims might be handled. The saw is advertised with a five-year warranty, but with the difficulty I’m experiencing having a simple part replaced, it’s hard to know what the process would look like if a major component—like the motor—failed a few years down the road.
